"Szkieve will bring his unique take on sound production with his Miniatures Express, which utilizes several miniature train sets along with video projections." Excerpt from the Sound+Receive Festival 2005 Program.
DESCRIPTION
"Miniatures express" allies both sonic and visual aspects. Based on three miniature train sets, "Miniatures express" is performed live for a period of about half an hour. Vibrations from the tracks are recorded live with six contact microphones and then processed live with several effects processors; additional sounds are recorded and processed such as environmental sounds (noise of the trains and the tracks) and interferences of the trains with radio receivers. An onboard wireless colour mini-camera is being broadcasted on a screen, another screen is showing a close up image of the passing trains. Speed of the three train sets is controlled by the performer in order to create the sequences. In fact, the sound sources are exclusively produced by the passing of the trains either on the tracks or nearby the radio receivers.
À partir de trois circuits de trains électriques miniatures, utilisés comme seule source sonore, Szkieve base sa musique sur les vibrations produites par les trains à partir de micro-contacts placés sur les rails et à d'autres endroits stratégiques ainsi que les interférences électriques générées par le passage des locomotives. Le contrôle du trafic exercé par l'artiste influence la vitesse des trains et l'intensité des sons créant à la fois des répétitions sonores et des variations thématiques qui sont ensuite électroniquement traitées et rediffusées. Ce dispositif visuel et sonore permet à Szkieve l'exploration des nouvelles voies créatives aléatoires mais construites avec précision.
